Qui audet adipiscitur

There are a lot of sayings. Here’s one... ‘fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me’, that doesn’t matter though, as ‘lightning can’t strike twice’.

With that in mind I’d like to formally announce my intention to complete LEJOG, again, from scratch, next year. My hopes of finishing the final three days this year are all but extinct. I am without bike (stolen, but thankfully before I’d got it repaired) and have no will to head north of Brent Cross given the cold dark evenings. Also, since the accident my fitness levels have regressed to an all time low. I’ve easily put on 7 kilos and the mammoth 1 mile ride into work this morning, on a shiny new Boris Bike, stung. That said it was my first time riding in the UK since April – Rosie and I did spend a very enjoyable 4 days cycling in Holland (flat + safe) to break me back in gently.

I’ve now fully recovered (cracking scar though!) and wanted to thank everyone again – Rosie, who started as support team and ended up as primary carer; Laura, who found me in the road and was just marvellous; all the staff at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary; everyone who read the blog and got in touch to wish me well; Ria and the team at Farleigh Hospice; those of you who sponsored me and of course Mum for everything - I imagine she is not going to be impressed at the decision to have another go.

To those of you who are thinking the crash was nothing more than a crass ploy to get more sponsorship monies and media attention you are sadly wrong – it was just a happy coincidence.

With that I declare my JustGiving page back open for business. As a little incentive to get the ball rolling in these times of austerity, the first person to sponsor me will receive the grand prize of either a fragment of my smashed glasses or a framed black eye photo – the choice is yours.

Dad would have said ‘he who dares Rodders...’ and dare I do.
